Maseru - Lesotho senior soccer side, Likuena, completed a double over Sihlangu Semnikati of eSwatini during two international friendly games played at Setsoto Stadium and in Mapotsoe. In the first match played on Sunday, Likuena narrowly beat Isihlangu Semnikati 1-0, through Jane Thabantso's solitary goal, and on Monday they won 2-0 in Mapotsoe.

The Likuena head coach Mr. Moses Maliehe said he was happy with the performance of his players, but he believes there is still room for improvement. “The players stuck to the game plan and did what we discussed prior to the match. We are now ready to face Cape Verde in the official African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier,” he commented.

He said Matlama players, Sera ‘Nyepetsi’ Motebang and Mabuti Potloane, both scored in the first half of the game to seal a back-to-back victory over the visitors. The coach said Cambodia based Tšotleho Jane also played against eSwatini and showed glimpses of fitness and sharpness, adding that the ABSA Premiership based trio of Tumelo 'Makhopo' Khutlang, Tsoarelo Bereng and Luciano Matsoso were expected in the country yesterday.

Mr. Maliehe said the reason behind their delayed arrival was because their club Black Leopards had a league game on Tuesday; hence their late release. However, he lamented that the US-based Lesia Thetsane will not be available due to study commitments even though he would have preferred to have him for the Cape Verde crunch encounter, but there was nothing he could do to change the situation.

“After making his debut for Likuena at the COSAFA Cup played in Limpopo, I would have liked to have him for continuity,” he stressed. Mr. Maliehe said Likuena will play one more game against ABSA Premier League side Bloemfontein Celtic on Friday before the players go in camp on Sunday. The coach will have to trim his squad of 20 local based players plus five foreign ones to maintain the squad at 20. Likuena is in Group J together with Uganda, Tanzania and Cape Verde and only the leaders will qualify for the finals in Cameroon next year. Lena
