MASERU – Likuena have been drawn against Ethiopia's Wallias at the 2022 World cup preliminary stages after a draw for the 14 lowly ranked African nations’ teams was conducted in Cairo, Egypt on Monday.

Likuena will visit Wallias away in Addis Ababa on September 2 and the return leg will be played at Setsoto Stadium in a midweek game on September 10.

The team’s caretaker coach Leslie Notsi described the draw as tough. Notsi’s temporary stint with Likuena ended last Sunday after the team’s historic win over their neighbours Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the first leg of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers. The finals of the continental event that only features locally based players will be held in Ethiopia. Notsi believes that nowadays, there are no longer anything called easy draws.

He said while all teams are tough but what needed to be done was proper planning since there were few games ahead this year.

He said in order to avoid players fatigue, regular meetings should be held with all premier league clubs to pave the way forward.

He said Matlama's participation at the CAF Champions League also needed to be taken into consideration for the planning as some of the club's players also do national service with Likuena. The winners from the 14 preliminary rounds will join others who will be drawn into the group of ten teams to determine five African representatives at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar.
