MASERU - National football Under 20 football team, Makoanyane XI, today travels to Botswana to play two friendly matches on Saturday and Sunday in preparation for their upcoming COSAFA Championship to be staged in Zambia in December.

According to the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Public Relations Officer, Thabo Maretlane, the team commenced camp last week ahead of these preparatory games – their first ahead of the December tourney.

He further indicated that after this match, they will again search for other teams to help them prepare thoroughly. He added that the team did not perform well on the previous COSAFA tournament however this is the right time to set the goals that will benefit the team positively this year.

“Our team was knocked out in the group stages last year and this shows poor performance compared to other years,” said Maretlane

He, however, indicated that so far the COSAFA draw has not been made but that it is ideal to prepare for any challenge that may come.

Meanwhile, Makoanyane XI star Bonang Mohapi applauded the step the national association took in arranging friendly matches to sharpen the team.

“Some players train in their respective districts so they have limited time to train together and combine with others, so I think playing friendly games will help develop our team for the upcoming tourney.
