FORMER national team head coach Moses Maliehe says the changing of coaches at Black Leopards has hampered the progress of Likuena’s forward Tumelo Khutlang since he joined the Limpopo outfit in 2018.

The 25-year-old footballer has managed just 24 games and two goals in his three seasons with Lidoda Duvha, having registered seven games in all competitions in the previous season.

Khutlang has been frozen out of the Leopards line-up this season, but the club announced earlier this week that the Lesotho international will be registered in their squad after the departure of Madagascar international-Andriamirado Andrianarimanana, which opened a foreign spot for the former Lioli forward to be registered with the South African premier league.

Maliehe also revealed that Jomo Cosmos owner and coach, Jomo Sono, who has been a long-time admirer of Khutlang, was watching the situation closely as he was willing to give the Lesotho international an escape route from his frustrating spell at Leopards.

“The instability at the club has been frustrating to him and his career especially the changing and chopping of coaches since he joined Leopards,” Maliehe stated.

“It has not been easy for him. He looked to have settled down in his first year under Joel Masutha, but all fell apart when he parted ways with the team with coaches coming and going.”

Leopards have had 10 different coaches including two spells for Dylan Kerr, who is back as their head coach since the club signed Khutlang in July 2018.

‘I’m still in contact with the player and I learnt that the club is registering him again and hopefully he will be back in the pitch soon,” the former Likuena mentor said.

“It’s been a frustrating spell for him because most of the coaches have struggled to get the best out of him. When Leopards spotted his talents, I was using him as playmaker, and I think that’s where they should utilise him. He can also play on the wing and take on defenders.

“I have been reliably informed that Jomo Sono has been monitoring his situation at Leopards as he has always admired Khutlang and there was a possibility of him going to Cosmos as the transfer window opened,” he said.
