PREMIER League clubs have a huge mountain to climb this season, after the Premier League Management Committee (PLMC) drew the fixtures in such a way that each team plays at least four matches in two weeks, including mid-week games.

In an interview with Metro, Swallows FC head coach Mahlomola Moea said despite the awkward set-up, both their technical team and the club at large are prepared.

“We have already warned our players that this season is going to be tougher than any they have ever played in.

“What is even more challenging is that most of our players are learners and people working for private companies. But we have a special arrangement with the concerned schools and companies to release them for the mid-week fixture,” Moea said.

Bantu FC coach Bob Mafoso said they have reinforced their squad hence, they have a great pool of players this season in order to avoid fatigue and injuries with so many games to play within a short space of time.

“This has of course affected us. We now spend more time resting than training. It is not easy, it is a challenging situation but the good thing is that most of our players are always available, so playing mid-week games will not be too much of a problem for us,” he said.

FC Likhopo coach Halemakale Mahlaha said his charges are greatly compromised by the new set-up.

“Most of my players are learners and some schools refuse to release them for mid-week games. So there is nothing we can do, we are a Premier League team, therefore we will use those who will be available.

“We trained them to play the same football so it will not be a big problem missing certain players in mid-week league games,” he said.

Vodacom Premier League teams are expected to have played four matches by December 24 with the first round anticipated to end on Saturday February 13, 2021.

But the PLMC has announced that there will be some changes on the fixture because of the tournaments dates which are yet to be confirmed.

The Lesotho National Insurance Group (LNIG) Top 8 Cup is one of those tournaments and it was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year.
