A total of 27 applicants have submitted applications for recruitment to replace the three Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) commissioners who left office recently.

This was earlier today confirmed by the chairperson of the Political Parties Forum (PPF), Pelele Letsoela. Letsoela said currently, an in-depth selection process is underway, adding that three candidates with suitable skills and expertise will soon be appointed. “These are people of high calibre and integrity expected to lead, guide and direct the commission towards its growth,” he said. By June 26, he said the forum will have sent at least five candidates to the Council of State, giving them the opportunity to tone the number down to three.

The whole process comes after the tenure of three former commissioners, Justice Mahapela Lehohla, Dr Makase Nyapisi and Advocate ’Mamosebi Pholo came to an end earlier in the year. Therefore, it was the order of the State Council to call political leaders and their representatives to decide or follow procedure enabling them to select suitable names for the vacant positions.
