Joseph Ntakha has confirmed reports of a possible disciplinary action against himself and Thuso Litjobo by the Alliance of Democrats (AD)disciplinary committee, of which they are both members.

He told the media on Monday this week that he was formally informed verbally that the party is planning to take disciplinary action
against him for speaking openly on social media about the affairs of the party but he is still waiting for formal, written communication from his constituency (Khubetsoana) secretary.

He explained that he was responding to what the party’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Litjobo allegedly said about the Prime Minister
(PM) and leader of the All Basotho Convention (ABC) Dr Thomas Thabane when he described him as the most brainy leader which left a sour taste in Ntakha’s mouth. Ntakha’s argument is that Litjobo’s alleged statement was open to interpretation and to him it implied that it suggested that AD leader, Deputy Prime Minister, Monyane Moleleki was not as intelligent as the PM.

“It left a sour taste in my mouth because I wondered how he failed to see his own leader’s intelligence, meaning he did not consider him as one of the brainy leaders in this country,” he said. Ntakha further noted that Litjobo’s alleged comment emanated from the fact that Thabane was planning to appoint Mr Mphonyane Lebesa into the Senate which he did last week.

He also said when the PRO goes on air about the party’s affairs, it must be through an instruction from the National Executive Committee (NEC) and on that particular day, he (Litjobo) spent about 10 minutes praising the ABC leader describing how smart he is, leaving a perception that this was what the NEC instructed him to do instead of speaking about his own leader and the growth of his own party.

Responding to the question of what he is expecting from the disciplinary hearing, he said was ready for anything, even expulsion and he would abide by the decision. On his part, Litjobo told the publication that he has not been informed, verbally or otherwise about a planned disciplinary action against him, but he was sure no one would do that. “I have not received any information on that and maybe it is because I have not done that warrants a disciplinary action against me, so I am not going to be disciplined,” he said. He also noted that nobody will plan, write or call him about that at all because his words have been intentionally twisted by Ntakha.

“Contrary to what he is saying, I said the PM and ABC Leader’s intelligence surpasses that of most leaders. I never said he was the smartest of them all, but my words have been twisted,” Litjobo said. Meanwhile, some sources said the party’s NEC is divided on whether or not Ntakha should be called in as some believe he was justified and only trying to protect his leader, and that he was only reacting to Litjobo’s statement. The two-year old party has not been spared the instability that others are experiencing as allegations have come to the fore that there are two factions, one that wears red hats while the other remains with the original white colour.
