Alliance for Democrats (AD) leader, deputy prime minister Monyane Moleleki has urged electorates from all constituencies to elect a youth league committee of their own choice without any external influence even from him as the party leader in order to respect electors’ choice in a democratic dispensation.

Moleleki said this at the weekend while at a rally at Hololo constituency in Butha Buthe where he introduced both the women’s league and
executive committees. AD is the second biggest party in the 4x4 coalition government under Prime Minister Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane. Both committees were elected earlier, so Moleleki is holding a series of his political rallies to introduce them to the electors at grassroots level.

Delivering his speech Moleleki indicated that sometime in February next year his party is going to hold an elective conference for the youth league committee adding that the electors in 80 constituencies have the democratic right to elect youth candidates that will represent them in accordance with their merits at constituency level.

“In other words, I Moleleki can’t interfere and influence any youth candidates to be nominated and be elected into the youth’s committee against the will and choice of electors at the grassroots level,” Moleleki explained urging constituencies to nominate hard working youth candidates with desirable merits to represent them.

Moleleki urged AD members to work in a transparent manner without any discrimination and bias in order to make every AD member feel at home for the betterment and growth of his party adding that democratic election of the party’s youth league will contribute to making all his party’s three structures functional.

Moleleki welcomed 147 new members who joined AD from different parties and promised that AD will win many constituencies in the next general elections due to increasing numbers of his party members in all districts. He unveiled a new slogan, “Morao ho tletse” meaning “No turning back”, to new AD members. Moleleki said his party slogan literally means that they had to get rid of hatred among all fellow Basotho parties.

Moleleki concluded by encouraging his members to actively participate in the Lesotho National Reforms in order to make Lesotho a better place for all people, adding that reforms in the economy, the media, fair distribution of wealth and the Lesotho Constitution will make a positive impact to transform the lives of Basotho.

On behalf of Butha Buthe constituency Moroka Morobe indicated that both theproduction of electricity and Lesotho Highlands Water Projects water outlet to South Africa originate from his district yet Butha Buthe is struggling to get electricity installation and water supply in some of its villages. Morobe added Butha Buthe hosts a diamond mine yet employment opportunities at the mine are given to people from other districts.

“This is not fair and if this practice doesn’t cease, we will have no choice but to block main road at Marakabei to Mokhotlong as part of violent demonstrationsto address our concerns until mine offices are located here to cater for recruitment instead of having our people travel to Maseru to seek jobs at a mine located in their own community,” Morobe explained.

However, Moleleki warned that violence is never a solution but begets violent measures and he would not like any member of the AD to be found on the wrong side of the law. “You must do everything peacefully. You have raised your concerns and they will be attended to,” he said.

“Butha-Buthe community should be given first preference for employment at mines in their area, and electricity should be installed in all villages around ‘Muela Hydro Power station,” Morobe said. Morobe’s speech was disrupted by supporters of a faction which supports
Thuso Litjobo against one Joseph Nthaka who always disseminates speeches on social media accusing Litjobo of undermining the party.

In an exclusive interview Nthakha from Khubetsoana No 28 Constituency, told Metro newspaper that there are some members of his party who want to attack him for revealing a plot which may lead to a split of AD.

“Our party is very small therefore we can’t allow the idea of two factions supporting Litjobo and Mahali (Dr Mahali Phamothse) to split the party,” he said. Nthakha alleged Litjobo’s faction came to the rally with whip sticks with intention to fight him for supporting Mahali Phamotse who he said they want removed from AD executive committee.

Ntakha confirmed that he (Ntakha), Refiloe known as Kaddafi and Litjobo have been asked to appear before the AD’s disciplinary committee. Litjobo is adamant that he was misquoted by Ntakha’s in allegations that he undermined the leader of AD. Ntakha insists he has evidence in the form of an audio clip implicating Litjobo.
