When Lehlohonolo Scott came to court to hear his case for double murder trial this week, he found his lawyer and the presiding judge absent and therefore the case could not continue as scheduled. The reason is that Justice Teboho Moiloa the trial judge, was not available due to ill-health while his barrister, Advocate Thulo Hoeane, was absent for reasons unknown to Mr Scott. It was also explained in court that his mother, Mrs ‘Malehlohonolo Scott was also ill. But when asked about the whereabouts of his lawyer unsure Mr Scott said he might be at the court-martial.

Mr Scott and his mother ‘Malehlohonolo are accused of killing Kamohelo Mohata and Moholobela Seetsa, at Koalabata in January and June 2012 at Koalabata in 2012. Mr Scott is further facing a charge of escaping from custody at the Lesotho Correctional Service (Maseru Central Prison. When the court told him that his mother was also ill, Mr Scott, dressed in white long-sleeved shirt and looking effervescent when asked by the court how his health was, he replied: “I am well.” He said he had heard that his mother was ill.

Mr Scott, who always during trial is seen together with his mother ‘Malehlohonolo, cut a lone figure in the dock as the judge told him that the trail would be postponed. Scott was remanded to appear in court again on February 5, next year after the crown Advocate Gareth Leppan appearing with Advocate Thapelo Mokuku, told the court that the date has been secured for continuation of the trial.
