TWO people were arrested in Limpopo province this week in connection with a human trafficking case in which a 23-year-old Lesotho woman was lured to South Africa under the pretext of finding her employment.

The suspects include the woman’s 24-year-old female cousin and a man aged 32.

“The two will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate's Court soon on charges of rape and human trafficking,” police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said.

The woman is alleged to have been repeatedly raped before she managed to escape and report the incident at the Mankweng police station on Tuesday.

“The victim, who is a foreign national, was deceived and lured into the country for non-existing employment and allegedly ended up being subjected to prolonged rape until she managed to escape.

“She was allegedly called by a cousin who promised her employment in Ga-Thoka. After receiving money for transport to SA, the victim travelled from Lesotho to the said area where upon arrival towards the end of last month, her cousin allegedly handed her over to the 32-year-old man,” Brig Mojapelo said.
