MASERU - Lesotho’s hosting of the first Women of Character (WOC) Summit saw women from various countries gathering together to tackle challenges and opportunities across all sectors. The summit held on Saturday was also meant for the women to share experiences with a view to help develop local business women.


Themed Arise and shine “There’s strength in the Storm” the one-day summit was envisaged to attract women from all walks of life and empower them holistically. According to its coordinator, Limpho Mahase-Maema the rotational international endeavour that will be held in another country next year featured women from countries such as Botswana, Kenya, South Africa, Zambia, Netherlands and the United States of America (USA). 

 

The meeting she said was aimed at sharing expertise to enable improvement across various business avenues. Ms Mahase-Maema said the summit also addressed challenges such as abuse and depression faced by women on a daily basis while encouraging them to be more careful in their lives.

Speaking at the summit, the director of gender at the Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation ’Matau Futho-Letsatsi said the venture sought to emancipate women. 

Mrs Futho-Letsatsi said government through its various ministries had formed linkages on the same aspect so that they were able to contribute towards Lesotho’s economic growth. 


One of the participants who is also a member of a women’s entrepreneurship group of Qalo Investment Group, Mpono Mosaase said she attended the summit with the intention of drawing wisdom from other women’s entrepreneurship experiences.
