’Manchafalo Motšoeneng, LTDC public relations manager said Basotho should visit their nearest tourist centres to explore attraction sites especially now that the country is receiving torrential rains that contribute to making Lesotho a unique tourist destination.
Locals, she said could make the industry viable by buying food, arts and crafts produced locally, adding that could save them a lot of money as they were more affordable.
“People can also exercise by hiking in such areas,” said Motšoeneng. “It is important to take advantage of the facilities nearby and to promote them.
“Basotho should act as tourism ambassadors by visiting various attraction sites with their relatives and friends from other countries.”
Mrs Motšoeneng further encouraged Basotho to observe COVID-19 safety protocols when touring such sites to remain safe.
“It is important to keep wearing facial masks, sanitise and wash your hands regularly with running water and soap and to avoid crowds.

“Basotho, especially the youth, should take part in domestic tourism,” she said. “The communities and the villages make up Lesotho’s tourist fabric and it is the responsibility of the youth to ensure that such places are known and visited.”
While the LTDC is mandated to market Lesotho as a preferred tourist destination, it also provides leadership in the development of a strong and vibrant tourism industry, contributing to sustainable economic growth, job creation, poverty alleviation and protection of the natural environment. LeNA
