THE Basotho National Party (BNP) National Executive Committee (NEC), has suspended its Secretary General, Tšepo Lethobane from the party for two years, for alleged discrepancies in its finances.

This was disclosed by the party's Public Relations Officer (PRO), 'Maleshota Leshota, saying the suspension follows recommendations made by the disciplinary committee after realising the discrepancies in the party books about three months ago.

She said Mr Lethobane was shortly thereafter suspended for three months pending internal investigations.

“The SG has been suspended from the executive as well as the party for a period of two years and this recommendation was approved by the party leader, Mr Machesetsa Mofomobe,” Mrs Leshota said.
She added: “He will not in any way engage in the party's activities for a period of two years.”
She said this is not the first time that a member of the executive is suspended, adding that even the former leader, Chief Thesele ’Maseribane was once suspended for discipline issues.

For his part, Mr Lethobane said his two-year suspension feels like a full expulsion, especially as he will not be participating in any party activities within that period.
