A number of officials from the Land Administration Authority (LAA) who allegedly connived with suspended Local Government Principal Secretary, Lefu Manyokole, to acquire land by illegal means will soon be charged with him, the Maseru Magistrate’s Court has shown.

The officials who have not yet been named are believed to have assisted Manyokole, 59, in illegally acquiring a house located in Qoaling, Maseru during the period between 2016 and 2018.

It is alleged that between April 2016 and May 2018, Manyokole submitted a false statement in writing to the LAA, claiming that the property in question legally belonged to him.

He is alleged to have thereafter procured a lease for that site.

The court heard how in his application for the lease, Manyokole together with his wife and brother-in-law had shown that they inherited the property in 1978.

But the court has since established that in that year, Manyokole was only 15 years old while his wife was aged 14 and that the two were not even living together then.

The accused who was released on an M1 000 bail is expected back in court on January 30

The case continues before Magistrate Nthabiseng Moopisa.
