Employees of Loti Brick who were forced into layoffs which began a fortnight ago are currently awaiting to know their fate yet to be determined by the company’s board. The workers were temporarily discharged from active duty after the company announced that it was experiencing recurring financial problems. Reports show that the board meeting which was supposed to convene yesterday to decide the future of the workers did not get underway. The managing director of the company Mosuoe Mapetla said they were still waiting to hear from the board, adding that no explanation had been forwarded as to why the meeting did not take place. Mr Mapetla said until the board had decided the next step to take, the layoffs would continue. Loti Brick is the main manufacturer of clay bricks in Lesotho and was founded in 1978. The variety of bricks produced by the company includes face bricks such as Heart, Mohokare, Senqu, Molepe and Lehakoe, along with plastering and paving bricks. The company has about 95 employees and its shareholders include the Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) with 75 percent shares, the government of Lesotho with its 20 percent and the Lesotho Energy Enterprise holding five percent shares.
