THE Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has released a shortlist of candidates who are expected to fill the seven vacant positions of the judges of the High Court.

The six nominees who include three males and three females are Advocates; Fumane ’Malebana Khabo, Moneuoa Stephen Kopo, Realeboha Mathaba, Makhele Julius Sekati, Kuena ’Mabotsoa Thabane and ’Mamotšelisi Khiba.

The closing date for submission of applications and nominations was on March 26.

According to a JSC circular released on Thursday, the advert to fill the vacancies on the bench had attracted a total of 36 candidates.

“The interviews for these candidates will be held on August 16,” the commission said, adding that the decision was made at the body’s 204th meeting held on July 22.

“The Attorney General, Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Law and Justice, Dean of the Faculty of Law Society, all legal practitioners, Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL), Civil Society Groups and the members of the public have duly been notified of this new development,” the circular further shows.
The High Court has a shortage on the bench after some of the judges retired while others died.
