A QUTHING woman who was shot on the head on Saturday night during the Basotho National Party (BNP) leadership elective conference has died.

Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli has confirmed that the woman whose name has been withheld was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Queen ’Mamohato Memorial Hospital later that night.
Mopeli said no arrests have yet been made in connection with the shooting.
Sources close to the matter claim that unidentified men who were wearing blue jackets were seen firing shots from outside the Mejametalana conference hall in Mazenod, where the assembly was held.
The sources believe that the shooting was random, adding that the woman might have been hit by a stray bullet fired from outside the building.

The sources further confirmed the misunderstanding that transpired prior to the conference, adding that one of the candidates also threatened bloodshed at the weekend assembly.

BNP deputy leader Machesetsa Mofomobe was voted as the party’s new leader at the conference, replacing Chief Thesele ’Maseribane whose 10-year reign ended in March. LeNA
