A 36-year-old Mosotho man of Thabana Morena in Mafeteng, who is a Famo musician, was shot dead during an incident that occurred at his home on a Friday two weeks ago. The police spokesperson Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli said that four men broke into the house of the victim through the window, allegedly shot the man to death while his 31-year-old wife sustained injuries and was later taken to the hospital where she was admitted.

The unknown suspects, he said, stole cash amounting to M780.00, trousers, shoes and cellphones from the family, among other items they stole. According to police reports, cause of the shooting is unknown but suspected to have been influenced by Famo turf war according to Superintendent Mopeli.

“The police are still in search of the suspects. We are pleading for information from members of the public that could help police investigate and apprehend suspects for justice to be done,” said Superintendent Mopeli. The deceased’s two children are reported to have survived the incident. “I once again appeal to Basotho to cease these horrific crimes and solve problems amicably whenever they arise.,” he said.
Famo music groups are notorious for a series of gang attacks and killings in and outside Lesotho. Basotho have many cultural music groups which also give themselves trade names such as: Terene, Seakhi, Phula Bobete, Thanya Masoleng, Mahana Puso, Tornado and Terata ea hlaba, among the most popular.
