Entertainment
Born Ts’epo Khetsi, the father of four daughters who celebrated his 40th birthday in March and rated the most equipped and experienced entertainer in the northern part of the country, says his parents wanted him to reach the highest level of education. But contrary to his parents’ goals for him, DJ Scandal had plans of his own in terms of his career path. “Saving money to purchase the music equipment that I now have was a major hustle. From as early as 15 years old, he said he began to organise music gigs in high schools until he produced his debut album in 2010. “The album was well received by local and some nearby radio stations in the Free State Province in South Africa. That was the beginning of more good things to come because it made me popular,” he said. Although the track called The One from the album topped the charts on People’s Choice FM, disc-jockeying remained his first love, hence he saw the need to share the stage with high profile DJs and celebrities from SA, such as DJs Christos, Clen Lewis, Lovers, Finzo and television characters Kumkani of the popular soapie Generations and Leeto of Skeem Saam just to mention a few.
“Scandal is now a well-recognized DJ across the breadth and length of Lesotho as well as other parts of SA. He portrays a very high level of expertise in production and disk jocking as well as engineering sound. I can’t wait for his next performance,” added a party-goer and local artiste ’Mashea Queen Mohlabi. DJ Scandal is currently a resident DJ at the Ozone Cocktail Lounge in Hlotse, Leribe. He also occasionally gets booked to perform at occasions in and out of Lesotho.
Apart from a recent performance in eSwatini at the Swazi Rally annual event, he has been pen-ticked to join celebrated DJs such as Skuzabell, Budda, Ashley The DJ, Finzo, Lovers (all from SA) and Davertz, Mekonko, Tsimza Boss from Lesotho at the first annual Maputsoe Winter Festival scheduled for July 27, at Wellas Park in St Monica’s.
