FOLLOWING the passing of Lesotho-born music legend, Tšepo Tshola on Thursday, Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro also joined the rest of the African continent in paying tribute to the fallen icon.

According to a media statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office, Dr Majoro said “The Village Pope” as Tshola was affectionately known will be remembered for his talent in music production and the music industry as whole.
Passing his regards, the PM described the deceased artiste as a great man who did a lot for the music industry in the region.
The Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture in the Republic of South Africa, Nathi Mthethwa also extended his deepest sympathies on the passing of the legend.
In a statement, Mthethwa said “The Village Pope”s melodious tunes from the Sankomota days to his solo compilations will linger forever in the minds of his fans.
Born in 1953, the late Tshola was an iconic song writer and award-winning jazz musician.

Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro
His fame commenced in the 1970s as the lead vocalist and composer for Sankomota.
The band which was formed in Lesotho in 1976 was made up of Frank Leepa, Moses Nkofo, Black Jesus, Moruti Selate and Pitso Sera.
In the late 1980s, the band relocated to London, England where Tshola teamed up with another jazz maestro, the late Hugh Masekela from South Africa.
Tshola died on Thursday in his home town Teyateyaneng (TY), Lesotho on Thursday from COVID-19 related complications.
