The waterfall which is on the Maletsunyane River is 192-metre-high and is located near the small rural town of Semonkong, which also is named after the fall.
From the town, one can get to the waterfall by walking, pony riding or driving, according to tourist escort, Polumo Mofamere of Boitumelo in Semonkong.
“The plunging water creates a reverberating echo when it hits the basin of the fall and the local community has it that the sound comes from the wailing of people who have drowned in the fall,” he explains.
After her visit to Semonkong in 2019, Nomathemba Qubu of Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa said on TRIPADVISOR website: “The Maletsunyane Falls is not only a Guinness world record abseil and magnificently beautiful but managed by such splendid charismatic guides who make safety the utmost important part of your activity whilst ensuring you have fun and feel confident. Thanks to a superb group of guys for a great abseil.”
Another tourist, Pierre Wiles from Belgium also noted on the website: “The site is great, I hiked to the viewpoint, the bottom and the top, the trail is rough and steep, you don't need a guide if you don’t prefer one but you need good shoes, and I enjoyed the travel.
