CABINET has decided to re-allocate a budget about M252.8 million from capital projects towards the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 games scheduled for December.

The game were supposed to be held in December 2020, but were postponed due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision to re-allocate the budget was made during Cabinet’s 7th sitting that was held on Tuesday.

This was revealed by Government Spokesperson Sam Rapapa on Thursday, during a press briefing in Maseru.

Mr Rapapa who is also the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology said the money will be used to revamp sport fields and all other logistics for the games.
The government, he said has also decided to enter into an agreement with the African Development Fund with the purpose of enhancing measures of collecting revenue in the country.
“Cabinet has also decided for the government to enter into an agreement with other countries in Southern Africa on their currencies. This deal will help those countries to stabilise their economy by putting at par their currencies with the South African rand,” he said.

The government, he also said has further decided to enter into another agreement with the Lesotho PostBank, to establish a partial credit guarantee scheme particularly focusing on agriculture.
He said Basotho will be given loans for commercial agriculture with government’s guarantee, adding that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security will officially announce this in details once the scheme has been established. LeNA
