MASERU – Likuena have been pitted against one of the toughest Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) groups’ qualifiers at the draw that was conducted yesterday in Cairo, Egypt.

The national squad will go straight to the group stages of the Cameroon 2021 AFCON qualifiers and not the preliminaries with the fixtures expected to kick-off in November. Contacted for comment, national coaches’ coordinator Seephephe Mochine Matete described Group L as extremely tough for Likuena.  The side has been drawn against powerhouses like Nigeria's Super Eagles who finished third at the AFCON finals in Egypt.

Likuena will also face another tough West African contender, Benin popularly known as Les Eureuils (the Squirrels).  Les Eureuils, Mochine said would prove to be a hard nut to crack after finishing in the quarterfinals of the 2019 AFCON finals. Fellow West African nation, Equatorial Guinea nick-named Nzalang Nacional will also not be pushovers. Mochine is a former Likuena coach himself. The side’s technical team is led by the new care-taker coach Leslie Notsi.
