MASERU- Matlama were on Sunday crowned Independence Top4 Cup champions after their hard fought 1 - 0 win over LCS in the final.

Tse Putsoa had earlier beaten LDF 2-1 in the first semi-final.  The referee had to end the game before regulation time because LDF players disagreed with her decision to allow Jane Thabantšo’s second goal.

Their argument was the ball had not crossed the goal-line, adding their goalie Likano Mphuthi caught it before it crossed into the net.

Matlama walked away with M200 000 and a trophy, making it their second cup in less than seven months, inclusive of the league title.

Both LCS and Matlama played interesting attacking football in the last match of the competition but had to wait until the 83rd minute to see a goal when LCS’ Keketso Snyders netted an own goal.

Matlama players cleaned out the individual accolades. Thabantšo walked away with the top goal scorer cheque worth M6 000. The two goals he scored in the semi-final against LDF were enough for that crown.

Stephane Heyong Esson and Monaheng Ramalefane won the player and goalkeeper of the tournament accolades respectively, with a package of M8 000 and M6 000 respectively.

LCS’ Thabang Malane received a consolation prize of the man of the match award in the final match. His team pocketed M100 000 in second place while LDF and Bantu received M70 000 and M50 000 for 3rd and 4th places respectively.

Former Top 4 champions Lioli did not get a chance to defend their title as they finished outside the top four bracket in the past season.
