LESOTHO’s rugby woman administrator Kananelo Mokhachane has been appointed by Rugby Africa Women's Rugby advisory committee to serve the continent in the Players Welfare and Participation Subcommittee focusing on female athletes in Africa.

In an interview with Metro on Wednesday, Mokhachane expressed her gratitude for the new task, thanking Rugby Africa for its trust in her to be part of the continental rugby governing body.

“I am truly humbled and grateful for the appointment. I sincerely pass my greatest regards to Rugby Africa for considering me for the position and for appointing a representative from Lesotho to serve in its subcommittee,” she said.

Mokhachane who is also a female representative in the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) Sport and Law Commission added that she has been in FLR administration for quite some time, adding she is currently part of the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission (LSRC) Women in Leadership programme.

The Secretary General of the Federation of Lesotho Rugby (FLR) Litšitso Motšeremeli said only 12 women on the African continent including Mokhachane made it into the coveted committee.

He was confident that given her previous track record, Mokhachane will serve both Lesotho and the continent with pride and great diligence.

“We are proud of her as an individual and her achievement gives us great pleasure. This is a newly established committee in Rugby Africa structure and it is the first time that Lesotho is represented in Rugby Africa leadership. She is a woman of substance who represented the FLR well in the executive committee. Her commitment to the development of rugby in the country is unquestionable.

“In 2019, she facilitated the women’s Under-16 and U18 teams’ trip to South Africa where the Under-18 team emerged victorious through her immense commitment,” Motšeremeli said.

He further applauded Mokhachane for facilitating the establishment of women clubs and the women rugby league in Lesotho, adding that the new mandate will help broaden her responsibilities to the rest of the continent.
