NEW dates have been set for the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers between Likuena and the three West African giants including the Super Eagles of Nigeria, the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone and the Squirrels of the Republic of Benin.

The Super Eagles will host Likuena on March 30 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria.

Coach Genort Rohr’s men were originally scheduled to face Benin on March 22 but will now battle the Squirrels on Saturday, March 27 in Porto Novo.

Nigeria won their meeting by 2-1 against the Beninoise earlier in the qualifiers at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on November 13, 2019.

The Eagles then thumped Likuena 4-2 in their encounter at Setsoto Stadium in Maseru.

Likuena head coach Thabo Senong earlier in February named a 30-man provisional squad for the qualifiers.

The provisional squad includes three foreign based players such as Nkoto Masoabi who recently joined a Libyan club along with two South Africa based players Motebang Sera who plies his soccer trade at Bloemfontein Celtic and Tumelo Khutlang who plays for Black Leopards in the DSTV premiership league.

Senong remains adamant that his side can cause upset as they battle the West African teams. “We just completed our fourth week of training with the local based players. I want to thank the Association for the support they have given us throughout this period,” Senong told a press conference after selecting his squad.

“I should also thank the coaching staff, physical trainers and our medical team. We cannot forget our COVID-19 compliance officer because it is the first time working under these conditions, which are different to what we were used to. Everything we do now, we must observe the COVID-19 protocols. It has not been easy exercise, but I can safely say, we are getting much better. The team is getting strong mentally and physically. The confidence is coming back, and their level of fitness has also improved. These players had a 6-months long layoff. It was not easy for them as well,” he added.
