Sera’s sterling showing caught the attention of South African talent scouts during the 2019 COSAFA cup, which was held in Durban recently. Likuena suffered a 2-1 trouncing at the hands of the Zebras of Botswana in the semi-finals of the regional annual tournament. Sera scored Likuena’s solitary goal after coming in as a substitute. His goal scoring prowess also helped Matlama clinch their record 10th league title. The prolific marksman finished the 2018/19 season as the Premier League’s top goal-scorer with 18 goals under his belt.
Contacted for comment, Matlama’s communications and marketing manager Tankiso Moletsane confirmed rumours of the ABSA Premier League club and two to three South African National First Division (NFD) sides showing an interest in the lanky striker. “Yes, there are reports linking Sera to an ABSA Premier League club and two to three NFD teams but nothing concrete has been forthcoming,” Moletsane said. He showed that Matlama would continue using the player until one of the interested teams made an offer for his release. He said sometime in January, the player attended week-long trials with SA giants Orlando Pirates, although the brief stint was unproductive.

Sera pocketed a M9,000 top goal-scorer prize at the end of the Econet Premier league season awards ceremony that was held in Maseru on Friday. He also walked away with a sum of M10 000 after he was voted the player of the season. Sera expressed his profound happiness at the awards he received, saying he never really expected to win. “But then again, I can say it was not a coincidence taking into account the effort that I made throughout the season,” the striker said in a post awards interview. He said he could have been happier had he scored a total of 20 goals instead of the 18 he netted throughout the season.
His team, Tse-Putsoa also pocketed M500 000 for winning the league and received gold medals along with the league trophy. By winning the coveted league title at home, Matlama automatically qualified for the CAF Champions League in the next season. So if the Sea-Point-based outfit loses one of its deadliest marksman to another team, that would only spell trouble for them on the frontline when their international campaign begins. LeNA/METRO
