MAMELODI Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi felt they were deserved winners against Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday but he was 'very unhappy' with the goals they conceded.

Sundowns raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to strikes from Peter Shalulile and Themba Zwane in the 10th and 23rd minutes respectively. However, they allowed Chiefs back into the tie, almost losing it on penalties in the end despite dominating possession and territory for large swathes of the game.

Mngqithi says the positive result is what his side deserved in the end on the balance of play, while praising veteran goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene for his heroics in the penalty shoot-out in which he saved four of Chiefs' spot-kicks and netted one himself.

"A very strange game to be honest because we dominated, which is what we expected to be honest," Mngqithi told SuperSport TV.

"We scored very good goals but I'm very unhappy with the goals we conceded. Allowing these diagonals from Nange, the cross and also the finish in the box with no competition from Parker. Being caught on transition, spaces in between our defence. Good pass from Keagan and good finish from Khama I must say.

"Look at how many chances we created on the day. We should have wrapped up the game earlier. And for Sundowns to concede two goals that's a very big downside of the game, because honestly we worked very hard not to concede and the type of goals we conceded do not suggest we have such a good defensive block.
