THE Lesotho Taekwondo Association (LTA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was scheduled for January 15 has been postponed indefinitely following the suspension of sports activities due to the resurgent COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

“The committee had set the date to January 15 but both the nationwide lockdown and the suspension of sports activities in the country forced us to postpone the AGM indefinitely,” said LTA publicist Sekhokhe Molikoe in an interview with Metro this week.

The association had earlier failed to hold its elective conference in March last year due to the first national lockdown and subsequent suspension of sports activities when the pandemic first broke out in Lesotho.

It therefore prepared to hold the AGM in November after sports activities were given the green light but the meeting could not go ahead as planned after some of the members of the Khubetsoana Taekwondo club dragged the LTA to court.

High Court judge Justice Tšeliso Monaphathi on December 15, 2020 ruled that the list of taekwondo clubs submitted by the LTA to both the Lesotho and Recreation Commission (LSRC) and the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) reflecting the clubs that were entitled to participate at the AGM and the LTA committee elections were declared as null and void as long as it included teams whose membership had been terminated and never reapplied for such membership.

The court further ordered the LTA to recompile a list of clubs that would participate at the AGM while excluding non-members in accordance with the constitution.

The association was also instructed to amend a certain clause of the constitution during its next AGM.

“The AGM will amend that clause and consider the orders given by the court in accordance with LTA constitution and the congress will also resolve as to when the elections will next be held,” Molikoe further showed.
