THE much anticipated Lesotho Taekwondo Association (LTA) elective annual general meeting was cancelled at the 11th hour last week Friday evening for no apparent reason by the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC).

LTA publicist Sek’hok’he Molikoe told Metro that the LNOC informed them that the meeting should no longer take place.

“The LNOC simply told us to cancel the meeting without explaining why.

“We had to return districts club representatives who were already on their way to Maseru for the AGM on Friday evening and informed others members of the association on Saturday morning that the meeting had been cancelled at the last minute the previous night,” he said.

Molikoe further noted that the taekwondo body is yet to meet the LNOC to discuss the way forward.

Last weekend AGM was cancelled after the LTA failed on several occasions to hold its executive committee elections due to among others the COVID-19 imposed nationwide lockdowns and the issue of some members dragging the body to court.

Asked to comment on the matter, the LNOC acting Chief Executive Officer ’Mathato Makhorole said the AGM was halted because the taekwondo body did not thoroughly prepare for the meeting.

“They were ill-prepared to hold the AGM, that is why we had to cancel the meeting when we did,” she noted.

The High Court had earlier ruled out that the taekwondo body issue a notice calling for the AGM within seven days of receipt of the order, and such notice being in compliance with the time frames in the constitution of the LTA.

In his judgment issued on December 15, 2020, Justice Tšeliso Monaphathi ruled that the list of taekwondo clubs submitted by the LTA to both the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) along with the LNOC reflecting the clubs that were entitled to participate at the AGM and the LTA committee elections be declared as null and void as long as it includes teams whose membership had been terminated and never reapplied for such membership.
