Menstrual health programme opens doors for women and girls with disabilities
The Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) launched the Menstrual Health and Hygiene Model at Ha Ralintsi in Mafeteng on Friday.
Among the voices that stood out during the launch was that of Refiloehape Sesinyi from the Lesotho National Federation of Organisations of the Disabled (LNFOD) who welcomed the programme’s commitment to inclusion. She noted that women and girls with disabilities are often among the most affected when it comes to menstrual health challenges, largely due to limited access to information and support services.
Sesinyi said many women and girls with disabilities do not receive adequate information on menstrual hygiene and self-care during their monthly periods, making it difficult for them to manage menstruation safely and confidently. She expressed gratitude that the programme will ensure access to menstrual products for persons with disabilities regardless of age, saying this demonstrates a commitment to leaving no one behind.
