Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians push for increased women’s representation

The Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) on Thursday convened a workshop aimed at strengthening women’s participation in politics, promoting gender equality and advancing legal reforms that safeguard the rights of women and girls in Lesotho.

The programme commenced with courtesy calls on the Presiding Officers of the Senate and the Speaker of the National Assembly before delegates gathered for a series of discussions on women’s leadership, legal frameworks and strategic partnerships for gender equality.

Officially opening the workshop, the Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus, Hon. ‘Mamello Holomo said the gathering demonstrated the Commonwealth’s commitment to advancing the rights and participation of women in governance.

She stressed that more efforts are needed to eliminate barriers that continue to prevent women from actively participating in parliamentary processes and decision-making.
