Matekane in Nigeria for Africa leadership summit

MASERU – Prime Minister Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane is in Abuja, Nigeria, where he is expected to join hundreds of African leaders, policymakers and business executives at a high-level summit focusing on trade, governance and leadership.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Matekane will participate in the Breaking Barriers to Trade & Leadership Summit, which runs from today (July 29) till tomorrow and is jointly organised by the African Leadership Organisation (ALO) and the Global Influence Club of the United Kingdom.

The summit will bring together government leaders, development finance institutions, private sector executives and other influential stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to deliberate on advancing trade, governance, leadership and institutional transformation.

During the summit, PM will deliver a keynote address at the African Leadership Colloquium on Thursday under the theme, “Re-Imagining Governance: What Africa’s Institutions Must Become.”

PM was invited by African Leadership Organisation founder and chief executive officer Dr Ken Giami in recognition of Lesotho’s democratic governance, institutional resilience and the Prime Minister’s leadership in driving national reforms, economic transformation and regional cooperation.

The African Leadership Colloquium is an invitation-only forum expected to attract about 400 delegates, including serving and former heads of state and government, cabinet ministers, central bank governors, development finance executives and captains of industry from across the continent.

Besides delivering the keynote address, Matekane will take part in the Leadership Covenant Signing Ceremony, where African leaders are expected to commit themselves to promoting accountable, ethical and sustainable leadership.

He will also participate in the Lesotho Business and Investment Roundtable, where he is expected to engage Nigerian and pan-African business leaders to promote investment opportunities in Lesotho and strengthen bilateral trade and economic partnerships.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the engagements form part of government’s broader efforts to strengthen regional and continental cooperation, expand trade and investment opportunities, and position Lesotho as an active contributor to Africa’s development agenda.
