MASERU – A tripod of law enforcement agencies has launched a public awareness campaign to prepare for the marking of the International Anti-Corruption Day, to be commemorated on 9 December.

In Lesotho, this is an annual collaborative work between the Directorate of Crime and Economic Offences (DCEO), the Lesotho Revenue Authority (LRA) and the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS).

This year the celebration would be marked under the theme: “United against Corruption for Development, Peace and Security.”

The day was designed by the United Nations General Assembly following the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) in 2003, to be commemorated globally every year by all state parties.

The key objective of the campaign is to raise public awareness of corruption and the role of the convention in combating and preventing corruption.

“While different countries have adopted different ways of marking the campaign, here in Lesotho we have our three law enforcement agencies (DCEO, LRA and LMPS), leading the campaign by mobilising all sectors of society; public, private and civil society to actively participate in the fight against corruption and related crime,” said the DCEO Director General, Advocate Mahlomola Manyokole earlier yesterday.
