AT LEAST 42 Basotho nationals who crossed the Caledon River into South Africa using a tube are expected to appear before the Ficksburg Magistrate’s Court later this week.

The border hoppers were arrested last week Thursday as they tried to illegally enter South Africa through the Caledon River (Mohokare) near the Ficksburg border gate.

They were spotted by a police task team that was deployed there during an operation called ‘Safer Festive Season’.

According to the Ficksburg police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele, the task team was deployed at the border gate to ensure full compliance and adherence to the adjusted Level 3 lockdown regulations.
