PRESIDENT of the Court of Appeal, Professor Kananelo Mosito is not an employee of that court as he works full-time for the National University of Lesotho (NUL) where he earns a salary, Deputy Prime Minister Mathibeli Mokhothu has shown.

The DPM was responding to an urgent question on behalf of Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro, asked by Member of Parliament for the Mahobong constituency, Mothetjoa Metsing who was keen to know the conditions of Prof Mosito’s employment.

Mr Metsing is also the leader of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD).
In response, Mr Mokhothu explained that Prof Mosito only gets allowances as the President of the Court of Appeal as per the Constitution of Lesotho, denying that he is employed by the government to serve as the President of the highest court in the country.
''He is not employed by the government for the position of the President of the Court of Appeal but only at the NUL where he serves as the Acting Vice Chancellor,'' he explained.
The DPM added that if Basotho are no longer satisfied with Prof Mosito serving in the two positions that could be addressed as the country is now under the reforms process.

Mr Metsing had also asked as to why Prof Mosito was getting benefits such as the use of government paid chauffeurs, domestic workers, vehicles and bodyguards all estimated at around M70 000 per month.

He further asked if it was correct for him to be employed by the government to serve in the two different roles.
