THE High Court has ordered the Registrar of the Court to appoint legal representatives for the three soldiers who face a battery of charges including 14 counts of attempted murder.

The three comprise Litekanyo Nyakane, Malefane Heqoa and Mohlalefi Seitlheko.
They are charged together with the former army boss Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli and Pitso Ramoepana.
The 14 counts of attempted murder comprise alleged bombings that occurred in Ha Abia and Moshoeshoe II on January 27, 2014.
The order was made after Nyakane’s lawyer failed to show up in court for no apparent reasons.
King’s Counsel Zwelakhe Mda who represented both Heqoa and Seitlhoko has also ditched his clients.

Court orders appointment of lawyers for accused

Former army chief Lt Gen Tlali Kamoli

When the court was about to set the date for hearing on Tuesday, Advocate Kabelo Letuka for the defence submitted that the accused had filed a constitutional application in which they among others request a stay of proceedings against them.

Adv Letuka said the application might have a bearing on the main trial.
The matter has since been postponed to November 2, for hearing. At least 39 witnesses are expected to give evidence in the trial.
Justice Charles Hungwe presides over the matter.
