Court to hear Setibing strangling case soon

THE 10 members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) who are accused of killing three men and dumping their bodies in the Mohale Dam will finally have their day in court on May 31 when High Court judge, Justice Onkemetse Tshosa hears the trial.

The accused who include their commanding officer are alleged to have strangled Lekhoele Noko, Khothatso Makibinyane and Molise Pakela to death at the military camp in Setibing, on the outskirts of Maseru on May 16, 2017.

The accused are further alleged to have thereafter dumped the three men’s bodies in the Mohale Dam.

The bodies were later fished out of the dam by members of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) with the assistance of their South African counterparts.
The accused are also accused of unlawful detention and issuing of unlawful orders.

The accused have raised the issue of jurisdiction saying the presiding judge is not qualified to hear the matter, adding that there is a pending case which challenges the powers of the judge to deal with the case.

Some of the accused have objected additional charges leveled against them.
