MASERU - Three members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) who allegedly gunned down a woman near the Ha Leqele residence of the former army boss Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli have asked the High Court to discharge them.

This is after the Crown in the matter had earlier this week informed the court that there were no witnesses to testify against the accused.

The accused comprise Corporal Tjekane Sebolai together with Privates Selone Ratšiu and Kopano Matsoso.

Advocate Lepeli Molapo appears on behalf of the Crown while the accused are represented by Adv Sello Tšabeha.

It is alleged that on May 9, 2014, the accused were guarding General Kamoli’s residence when they opened fired with their AK 47 assault rifles on a vehicle Lisebo Tang and Tšepo Jane were travelling in.

Tang who was a passenger in that vehicle suffered fatal wounds while Jane survived the attack with serious gunshot injuries.

The accused are also charged with malicious damage to property for allegedly damaging Jane’s vehicle – a white Toyota Hilux 4x4 during the incident.

The matter continues before Justice Kabelo Lebotse from Botswana.
