MASERU – His Majesty King Letsie III and his delegation left Lesotho on Saturday for Japan where he will be attending the enthronement ceremony of the new Japanese Emperor Naruhito Akihito.

The ceremony takes place on Tuesday October 22. According to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Mothepu Mahapa the former Emperor aged 85 abdicated on April 30 due to old age and ill health.

Mr Mahapa said the King would thereafter proceed to Italy to meet the new top management of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). His Majesty is accompanied by Her Majesty Queen 'Masenate Mohato Seeiso.

The King and his entourage is expected to return home on October 30. On another note, Prime Minister Motsoahae Thabane will also be on a three-day official visit in Serbia following an invitation by the Serbian Prime Minister.
According to the PM’s press secretary Thabo Thakalekoala, the purpose of the visit is to strengthen bilateral the friendly relations between the two countries.

Mr Thakalekoala said during the visit, the Mr Thabane would sign an agreement on working relation in sectors that include the army, technology and medical health related issues.
