THE year 2020 has been quite challenging, not just to individuals but even organisations and the government as well. A lot of money in different ministries has been spent on initiatives to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and to stop the spread of the deadly virus.

The government’s efforts to try and mitigate the effects of the virus have left some areas unattended to, due to lack of funds.

In a bid to close some of such gaps, the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) donated 20 wheelchairs to the Ministry of Social Development during a ceremony that was held on Thursday at the Ithuseng Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre in Maseru.

Speaking at the event, the Registrar of the institution, Moroka Hoohlo said it is their mission to assist the government by improving its human capital and achieving its sustainable development goals, especially in educating and enriching the lives of Basotho.

He noted: “It is the university’s hope that the ministry would distribute the wheelchairs to disabled people who are in desperate need and that such people’s lives would be made easier through this donation.”

The wheelchairs Mr Hoohlo said are meant to improve the livelihoods of the beneficiaries.

For her part, the Minister of Social Development ’Matebatso Doti expressed her gratitude to LUCT for the noble gesture describing its ‘Heal the World Foundation’ as an amazing initiative. She said the ministry had been in dire need of facilities like wheelchairs for such a long time.

“I am eternally grateful for the amazing gesture made by Limkokwing since 2020 has been a challenging year to Lesotho and the world at large, especially in efforts to fight and prevent the Coronavirus,” Mrs Doti said.

The donation was made under the Limkokwing’s Heal the World Foundation, which was founded by the university’s President with the intention of alleviating poverty and improving lives of the less privileged people.
