HUMAN trafficking is not only a disgrace but an unlawful act that needs to be rooted out of our society, Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro has said in his remarks for Christmas and New Year.

The government he said, has set up a ministerial sub- committee to investigate human trafficking cases in Lesotho, adding that the committee is already on the ground doing the job

Dr Majoro noted that there is a lot of progress made as seven people linked to the crime have already been apprehended while 12 foreigners have been deported to their native lands.

To buttress this war against the crime that knows no boundary lines, the prime minister said the government has amended the Anti-Trafficking Act of 2011.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, he said together with the police has also established the Anti-Trafficking and Migrants Control unit to combat human trafficking.

He urged people arriving in the country from South Africa and other countries to have a safe stay in Lesotho.

He also made a strong appeal to the nation to always wash their hands with running water and soap.

Dr Majoro said the government is gravely worried about the high rate of Gender based Violence (GBV) cases which largely affect the elderly people.

He said he has already spoken to bodies concerned to urgently deal with the problem.

He noted that the government is also devising strategies to help the country navigate out of the abject poverty through massive food production, adding that the government is at an advanced stage to deal with the on-going National Forms.
