THE Pharmacy Association of Lesotho (PAL) has called on the Queen ’Mamohato Memorial Hospital (Tšepong) to reinstate the 245 nurses who were dismissed last week, with immediate effect.

According to a statement released by the association on Friday, Basotho should not suffer poor health service due to the inefficient manner with which the Tšepong group handles its employees’ affairs.
PAL believes that to provide a complete and efficient health care service for the Basotho, all the health professionals providing such service should be free and treated fairly.
“We know that what affects nurses will affect other health professionals directly including us pharmacists and pharmacy technologists, hence we support the reinstating of dismissed nurses” the association says.
It adds that Basotho are at the stage of trying to recover from the effects of COVID-19 storm that took all the health professionals including the dismissed nurses for a rough ride.

It further notes that health professionals put their lives at risk and helps health institutions including Tšepong group to fight the pandemic with the confidence of having the health professionals willing to give their all for the nation.
It says it is inacceptable for the hospital to dismiss such a large number of nurses when there is fear of a third wave of COVID-19 pandemic which is already hitting other countries.
Tšepong nurses were dismissed from work last week, after they went on a go-slow for salary increment.
