SPOKESPERSON of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD), Apesi Ratšele says the party is by no means planning to remove its leader, Mothetjoa Metsing from its PR list when the National Assembly officially opens for business soon.

This was in response to a suggestion made, calling for the former Prime Minister to take his DPM pension and relinquish his PR seat in order to be occupied by another party member in Parliament.

“To allow the leader to vacate his seat in Parliament would be a grave mistake that would create two centres of power if the party leader is out of the National Assembly where decisions are made,” Ratšele said.

Without mentioning any names, he added: “It is unfortunate that the majority of the people who want the leader to vacate his seat are party members who already have another individual in mind.”

He said other party members also want the deputy leader, Tšeliso Mokhosi to make room for young blood.

“That also cannot happen, there are many MPs who are way older than Ntate Mokhosi, he is certainly not the oldest legislator in our Parliament.” - LeNA
