AFTER spending 28 months in office, former Prime Minister Dr Moeketsi Majoro has finally handed over the reins of power to his successor and the new head of government, Sam Matekane.

Handing over the baton to Matekane on Friday at the Setsoto stadium, Majoro said the new leader should be ready to deal with challenges that wait ahead as he navigates towards saving the nation.

“I wish him well in his new assignment. He must remember that leading a nation is a responsibility given by God. You must remain resolute and true to this nation. Dear Prime Minister, today you join a brethren of African leaders, many of whom are here today to give me farewell but most importantly to welcome you. I thank you for your support during my 28 months in office,” Majoro said.

He further appreciated the support he received from fellow political parties, particularly the All Basotho Convention (ABC) for providing him an opportunity to serve the nation.

However, he bemoaned the COVID-19 outbreak as one of the major challenges that prevented his government from achieving some of its goals.

“I also wish to thank the international community for their support during the country’s October 7 general elections,” Majoro added.
