Top local marathoner, ’Neheng Khatala made the country proud on Thursday when she finished 20th in the women's marathon at the ongoing Tokyo Olympic Games. She clocked in 2:33:15.

The winner, a Kenyan national, P. Jepchirchir finished the race in 2:27:20, with another Kenyan, B. Kosgei appearing second in 2:27:36.
LAAA’s Sejanamane Maphathe commended Khatala for what he said was an outstanding performance.

“Her overall performance was very good especially because she finished only six minutes behind the winner, which is a reasonable time.”                                                             

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games that kicked off on July 23, were supposed to have been held last year at the same time but were postponed due to the Corona virus outbreak.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) resolved that the games should go ahead this year despite reports of new COVID-19 cases in Japan.
Lesotho is represented by two marathoners at the global multi-sport show, including Khatala and her husband, Seutloali Khoarahlana who is scheduled to run on Sunday.
