LAAA ready for fresh elections
LAAA PRO Sejanamane Maphathe
Commenting on the court case that was earlier filed by the newly elected committee, LAAA spokesperson Sejanamane Maphathe said the applicants have however, since withdrawn the case, after the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) intervened in the dispute.
This, he said paved way for fresh NEC elections, adding that nomination forms have already been issued for interested candidates.
''The nomination forms have already been issued and are expected to be returned on December 29 to pave way for the June 30 elections,” Maphathe said.
He noted that preparations are therefore on track for the elections, adding that the October 30 polls had been held unconstitutionally.
“Only members of the association who are still in good books will be eligible to contest or cast their votes in the elections,” Maphathe also said.
Attempts to get comments from some of the committee members who were elected on October 30 were unsuccessful as their phones either rang unanswered or were unavailable altogether.

The LAAA NEC which was elected on October 30 consisted of President Tšeliso Pheta, Vice President Sefali Sefali, Secretary General Makara Thibinyane, Vice Secretary General Thabakholo Mafikile, Treasurer Moiloa Letsema, PRO Makhalemele Nkuebe and Member Ntabanyane Karabo.
Both the new and the old committees had argued on the constitutionality of the October 30 elections, with one side claiming to be the rightful committee while the other contended that the association’s constitution had not been followed prior to holding the elections.
The Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC) as the mother body had advised both parties to resort to the negotiations in order to resolve their dispute amicably. LeNA
