LESOTHO Football Association (LeFA) has warned B Division clubs that fail to include young footballers in their team lists during official league matches to urgently comply with the new development rules.

According to a LeFA statement released on Monday, some teams in the B Division contravened the new rules during playoffs that were held in Thaba-Tseka over the past weekend.

According to the statement, each club participating in the B Division shall name no less than three players aged below 20 years in its play list.

With the aim of empowering football development in the country, before the 2019/20 season commenced the mother body put in place the said rules and regulations.

It also stipulated that that each club participating in the C Division shall name no less than three players aged below 17 years.

That was despite the fact that the new laws restricted some organisational clubs from registering for the new season.

LeFA’s statement further shows that the association has noticed with concern the uproar from B Division clubs that were involved in the play-offs this past weekend over the registration of players in the FIFA Connect.

It adds: “LeFA would like to make it clear that it will not in any way tolerate clubs that want to bypass the rules and regulations that govern football in this country. It remains the responsibility of each club to see to it that the registration of players in the FIFA Connect is completed within the registration period.”

The association has therefore warned all the clubs to treat this matter with urgency going forward, to ensure that they do not repeat the past mistakes, which affected even teams in the elite leagues such as Mzamane FC that had to play part of the past season with a depleted squad after failing to complete the registration of their players.

The team completed the first round of the 2019/20 season using only eight men after failing to register enough players in the FIFA Connect system during the registration period.

Mzamane only managed to register additional players during the window period.
