LESOTHO international trio of Mokoteli Mohapi, Moteloa Khemisi and Shali Lekhotla are on trials at South African GladAfrica Championship side University of Pretoria on recommendation of Likuena coach Thabo Senong.

Senong announced during a press conference at the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) headquarters that the trio, who are part of his database of 50 players, are on a week-long trial at the Tshwane-based outfit, popularly known as Tuks.

Mokoteli, who plays for Kick4Life in the Vodacom Premier League, won his first cap for Likuena in March during the 3-0 loss to Nigeria in the recently ended 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers played in Lagos.

Lekhotla, who plays for Butha Buthe-based Lifofane was also in the Likuena provisional squad prior to the matches against Sierra Leone and Nigeria played in March.

Meanwhile, Khemisi is yet to get his chance with the senior national team, but was a member of the Lesotho Under-20 side that lost 2-1 in the final of the regional COSAFA Cup to South Africa in 2017.

“I think I should take this opportunity to also announce that three players that are also on our database and part of our future plans in Mohapi, Khemisi and Lekhotla are on trials at the Tuks (University of Pretoria,” Senong said.

“They have been there since Monday and have already started training with Tuks and will come back on Friday.”

The University of Pretoria, which unearthed South Africa internationals such as Andile Jali and Bongani Zungu, just to name a few finished in 13th position in the recently ended 2020/2021 GladAfrica Championship.

The Tshwane-based outfit were relegated from the South African Premiership during the 2015/16 season and have had a tough time finding their way back to top flight football.

Khemisi, who came through the ranks at Qoaling Highlanders, but has been playing for Matlama over the last three seasons confirmed his trial at Tuks along with his two countrymen.

“We have been well received since we arrived at the trials and all hopeful that the trials will go well,” the left footed winger said.
