LIKUENA arrived in Maputo, Mozambique on Sunday ahead of their two international friendly matches against Mozambique's Mamba and Isihlangu Simnikati of Eswatini on Wednesday and Saturday respectively.

The Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) Media Officer, Mikia Kalati said the two games will assist Likuena to fine tune their preparations for the 2021 edition of the regional Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) Cup slated for Durban, South Africa in July.
Head Coach Thabo Senong has been mandated by LeFA President King’s Counsel Salemane Phafane to at least reach the COSAFA semi-final or face serious consequences.
Phafane also promised to offer the coach all the necessary support to ensure that Likuena play as many international friendlies as possible so that the team would be ready for the regional show piece.
Likuena, he said have in previous editions of the competition shown that they are capable of reaching far after making it to the finals in 2000 when they lost to Zimbabwe's Warriors.

The squad also reached the semi-final in the subsequent edition of the regional competition.
Likuena last played in a competitive match during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers where they finished at the bottom of the four-member team Group L that consisted of eventual winners Nigeria's Super Eagles, runners up Benin and third placed Sierra Leone.

This was while the domestic league was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This time around, the domestic league is running on a high note which might have enabled Senong to select his best possible squad that consists of local as well as foreign based players.
However, he encountered some challenges getting some of the key players based overseas home, due to club commitment and the fact that COSAFA Cup is not recognised by the world soccer governing body FIFA. LeNA
